Why mh for veg

With a HPS all my little kids went to a light green when they where under the HPS and as soon has i changed for MH they came back to the right shade of green. The MH will keep the internode distance closer which is what you want for tight compact buds. Under HPS, the plants tend to stretch more and in the end need more staking. I've seen people get good results under just a HPS if you can only get one I would pick the HPS but if you can get both and a switchable balast then do it.

This bulb has a great color spectrum and is the most like natural light that I have used. The color rendition is very high so a lot of the light is usable.

Even though it is kelvin it contains plenty of blue light for strong vegetative growth. I'm using cfl's but my buddy is getting ready to set up a 3 room grow and we're figuring out lighting for each room.

MH works well from seedling to veg. A switchable ballast is cheaper and I've read in several grow books Jorge Cervantes, et al. That is, the most coverage per watt for the money.
