Is it possible to send heirlooms cross realm

The only way to get a BoA to another server is to transfer a toon with it to that server. I wonder if many do transfer a toon just to transfer heirlooms to a different server. I recently leveled a toon on a new server and just leveled as normal, not having cold weather flying until 77 was a real pain in the ass.
